The Coralmander
The Coralmander is a unique creature in the world of Spectra. Long speculated to have existed during the primal-magic era. A time when chaos reigned, and civilization was nascent. These behemoths are large, but rarely spotted. Clues to their existence are only indicated by coral-antlers found on ocean shores.
They come from a lineage of animals with the ability to manipulate water. This adaptation has kept them alive through a defensive mechanism. Aquance conduction also helped them evolve to migrate between fresh and salt water. Because of this, they have been quite the elusive species.
With that ability, they choose to seek the great oceans during warmer seasons. This provides the most abundant source of food. Their primary diet are lichen-snails, rich in nutrients and easy prey. During the colder months, the Coralmander choose to move inland towards fresh waters. During this frigid time predators are scarce, giving them the opportunity to mate.
Mysteries still revolve around Coralmander. Its unclear their numbers or where they choose to lay eggs and raise their offspring. Their ability to evade observation is remarkable given their slow movement. They can live for hundreds of years, but the upper limit is murky. This detail of their lifespan backed by an unlikely friendship. A famous Temporal-mage once recounted their centuries long bond with one of these mythical beasts.
These majestic reptiles are often hunted for their antlers. A key ingredient in powerful mana potions when ground fresh. Which is an unfortunate end to their lifecycle. While revered, it is clear the Coralmander is a friendly and passive magician of water. They hold a mythical history of wonder and surprise. Often celebrated by Aquance mages as a type of kin.
