In the great northern tundra stands a monolithic structure. A monastery for the Count of Essents. Built hundreds of years ago by the Terrant mages, it serves a sinister purpose. The structure was commissioned by the first Essent. A mage so powerful it could reverse the course of life. Years of construction guided by this mage, building and refining layer upon layer. Each floor acting as a filter.

As the building would age, new layers added. The count discovered an aspect in the flow of renewed spirits. Time and time again, a conqueror of the ages would arise. This would induce decades of feudalistic existence for all in Spectra. This time of enslavement would come to be known as the Primal-Spectran Era. The original count was a victim of this time. It understood that the cause of this plight resided in an imbalance of power. Mages sometimes born under unique circumstances would inherit a greater sensitivity to magic. Thus their abilities far surpassed all others, leading to tyrannical oppression.

It would be during the forty-third century B.S.M. that this chain would break. During King Sef’s rule, a corporeal mage would change history. A moment in time that would see Spectra shift in its power dynamics and set the course for a new, more ominous entity. A corporeal-warlock known as ‘Sep-Gor’ is on a path of destruction. A elder mage of healing, part of a group dedicated to support on the battlefield. He would by chance come into direct conflict with the king.

During the battle of the drenched desert, Sef takes the life of Sep-Gor. A bizarre moment in history in which a overzealous king breaches battle-decorum. Sef’s tactic to weaken the enemy by thinning out the opposition’s aid, proves fruitful. This attack incepts a group known as “The Count of Demise”. Sef succeeds. An anomaly occurs. Gor’s essentia billows from a mortal wound, covering his attacker. Spectral-chains of memory and revenge form in the black sludge, as it passes through Sef.

A new identity formed; neutral knowledge linked to the past with a burden of repairing. Sep-Gor is reborn a decade later, no longer a corporeal mage but something else. An entity formed of memories and the ability to conduct souls. This Count would break the chain. Sep would go on to bring four other mages into the Counts.

His first action would see the construction of an essentia filtering-structure. A tool that would extract information about the environment from spirits. It’s was to limit the adaptations gained through magic. The structure revolves around a pillar of Spectralium. From the core of Spectra the spiral stretches to the sky. Terraphyton mages constructed the hull and rooms. Sep advised every inch of the process. Floors/mazes guide spirits through the filters and back into the world. Rooms composed of brass-like ropes, embedded in blacked rock. Awe-inspiring patterns line massive surfaces with brutal utility. The visage is chaotic, yet planned. Patterns of snaking lines and floral-geometric repetitions compose rooms. Spirits dance as they follow it’s winding path through tunnels. The lowest filter/floor holds a room of great size. A cavernous space filled with a jungle of fungal growths.

There’s no understanding of why the Essent-mages do not speak on their rule over souls. But construction of new layers ceased in the synthetic-magic era. During the first king’s rule two caps of pure mirra bookend the layers; a gift in exchange for something dark. This deal, brokered by the Corporealites develops into the alliance of Spectra. This exchange brings the development of Mirra-knights (false-mages). A group dedicated to eradicating Mages who do not carry the flag of Spectra.

The king of Spectra and Counts are the only ones with knowledge of the elements filtered by the spiral. I fear the entirety of our past lives are gone. Essent mages took to solve the problems of reused spirits. They broke a feudalistic world that developed around powerful Magi. Removing them would unleash a stronger, more deadly power. One that would see the world lose it’s ability to conduct. The Spectran Kingdom would take the place of the rulers of past and bring an end to magic.
